A Typical Government Classroom Within Virginia...

A typical Government classroom in Virginia incorporates a multitude of different personalities and learning styles. This classroom is not much different. There are the typical four walls, windows for daydreaming, a white board, and a projection screen. Inside this classroom is where magic begins to happen and children begin to blossom and prepare for life as an adult. Children become aware of their surroundings both in school and as a citizen of not only the United States, but the World. Relationships are created and nurtured to attempt to propel students to the next level of learning, yet a fact remains. Some students are still failing to succeed at making the connections between concepts and reality that is required to be an integral†¦show more content†¦The classroom also contains a technology cart filled with 30 MacBook Pro laptops for student use. In the back of the classroom is a bulletin board that illustrates different major concepts and relationships of current mate rial to the overall concepts of democracy. On the wall, an observer would find a â€Å"Classroom Constitution.† This lays the foundation of behavioral expectations. Liberty High School also participates in a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports system which is a system to encourage and reward positive behaviors as well as provide systematic consequences for poor behaviors. The classroom management in the classroom is a four step approach that begins with verbal redirection, then proceeds with a warning to cease inappropriate activity, followed by removal from activity and parent contact, then an office discipline referral if all other measures fail to end negative behaviors. Overall, students show respect to the instructor, and work on assignments and activities with only minor behavioral issues. Student Characteristics Three students were chosen out of a group of nineteen students with a wide range of ability. Twenty-six percent of the class receives special education services, while sixteen percent of the class is gifted. This leaves fifty-eight percent of the students in the government class on an average level of academic
